Kate Fuller

Twenty-one
year old
Kate
from the
beautiful Barossa town of Tanunda
entered the Music Scholarship
after
4 years studying jazz voice at the Elder School of Music in
Adelaide.
Kate immersed herself in the thriving Adelaide jazz scene,
performing with some of Australia's most acclaimed jazz
musicians including, Bruce Hancock, Laurie Kennedy, John Aue
and Bob Jeffrey. She gained a role in Adelaide
institution, The Berlin Cabaret at The Weimar Room where she
performed in the role of FiFi.
In 2004, she took her career to the next level, writing,
directing and performing in her one woman show Eva, a
tribute to Eva Cassidy, to sold out crowds, during
Adelaide's Cabaret Festival Season.
After winning
the Glenn Shorrock Music Scholarship Award
Kate moved to Sydney to collaborate with composer and
musician Greg Burgett, an honours graduate of The Sydney
Conservatorium of Music. The results of all the hard work
culminated in wonderfully successful recording sessions at
Sony BMG Music Studios in June of 2006.
The CD
supported by the scholarship and
recorded by renowned jazz sound engineer Ross Ahern,
is a
soulful mix of standards and Kate's originals, most written
since winning the music scholarship in 2005. “Australia’s
answer to Nora Jones, Kate has a very bright future indeed
said, patron Glenn Shorrock.”
With
Kate on vocals, Greg Burgett on Piano, Jamie on Drums and
Craig Scott- well known veteran of the Australian Jazz scene
and Head of Jazz at the Sydney Conservatorium on bass, it is
a must for lovers of contemporary jazz.
In July 2006 Kate headed off to
Switzerland to perform at the prestigious Montreux Jazz
Festival.
Kate will perform
and compare the 2007 Glenn Shorrock Music Scholarship Award
finals which will take place at Lyndoch Uncorked, the major
concert event of the Barossa Vintage Festival, on Easter
Monday April 9, 2007.

Inaugural Winner
Michael Paynter
“A
Star in the Making if ever I saw one”… is how former Little
River Band front man Glenn Shorrock described 18 year old
Michael Paynter, the winner of the inaugural Glenn Shorrock
Music Scholarship Award. Michael a Singer & Songwriter from
from Langwarrin in Victoria has been playing piano since age
7, guitar from age 10, and writing and performing since age
12. Michael is known for his ability to move people
with the serenity and beauty of his original songs and
unique voice.
Since winning the first Award in April 2004 the scholarship
arranged for Michael to attend his first ARIA Awards
to see the original members of The Little River Band
inducted into the Hall of Fame.
After the awards Michael caught up with new mate Jacky
Barnes (Son of Jimmy), and spent a few days jamming,
writing and recording in Jimmy’s Sydney studio.
In March of 2005 The Glenn Shorrock Music Scholarship
was successful in arranging an audition for Michael with
record company Sony BMG. On the strength of his performance
Michael was offered a development deal and in early 2006 a
long awaited record contact with Sony BMG.
Michael has recently returned from a three month songwritng
tour covering Scotland, England and the US, where he had the
unique privilege to work with some of the world's leading
songwriters and producers. These include Guy Chambers
(Robbie Williams, INXS, World Party), Lindy Robbins and Reed
Vertelney (Michael Jackson, Backstreet Boys), Ricky Ross and
Gary Clarke (James Blunt, Natalie Imbruglia), Matt Bronleewe
(Leeland, Michael W. Smith) and Shelley Pieken and Wally
Gagel (Muse, Keith Urban).
Michael is set to release his debut Cd with Sony BMG later
in 2007.
